What's different about Pantcakes 'n Woofles - there are a lot of dog treats and mixes out there? Pantcakes 'n Woofles treat mix is one of the only treat mixes that makes a soft treat for your dog. It is made from the finest and freshest whole grain ingredients we can find, is easy to chew and swallow (great for older dogs), and it is specially formulated to be a treat that dogs love to eat. They really do gobble them up! They are easy and lot of fun to make -- no rolling and baking. You can make them especially for your dog, or on your griddle or waffle iron at the same time you are making breakfast for yourself or your family. How many does a bag make? One bag contains enough treat mix to make at least six batches, following the instructions on the back. How many treats each batch will make depends on size. For small dog treats, drop the batter by teaspoonfuls. For larger dog treats, drop by tablespoons. Our tests show that one batch will make 24 small treats (adding up to more than 144 in each bag). Can I make a smaller batch? Yes, you can. You just have to mix the egg and milk in the amounts given in the instructions and then divide it by the same number you are dividing the rest of the ingredients in the recipe. For example, if you want to make half a batch, use half of the amounts of the other ingredients, still mix the full one egg and 1/4 cup of milk, then divide it in half and use that. Discard the rest. Why do I add oil to the batter to make Woofles? Good question -- I had to have professional test cooks and dieticians look this one up. There is always oil added to waffle batter recipes - but nobody knew exactly why. Turns out that it helps them to keep their density and stand up to the heat of the waffle iron. No whimpy Woofles for our dogs!! Can I buy Pantcakes 'n Woofles in stores? Yes, you can. Pantcakes 'n Woofles will be available this holiday season in fine pet retail stores across the country. |
How do I know how much to feed my dog? A wise vet once helped me understand portion control (which is also good for us humans, isn't it?) for dog treats in a simple way. Look at your dog's paw, she told me. Now look at your own hand. Imagine a cookie in your hand. What size, and how many would be good for you to eat? Then she had me look back at the size of my dog's paw and I knew exactly how many of any size treats would be good for my dog. If we use this but think pancakes (for us, really a treat!) instead of cookies, a stack of three the size of our hand is about right. Of course, who wants to stop at just three... Why does it say it is best to keep the mix refrigerated or frozen? Pantcakes 'n Woofles is made from whole grains. Keeping any whole grain product refrigerated will just help it last longer. What do I do with the leftover treats that I freeze? Place them in a toaster oven and toast them lightly. Be sure to allow them to cool before serving to your dog. What if my dog has a wheat allergy, or can't tolerate gluten? There are many fine wheat-free and gluten-free dog treats available from other manufacturers. Choose them for your dog. We would never want you to feed your dog anything that would be harmful or difficult to digest. It's just that you really can't make a pantcake without flour, and since many dogs can eat wheat and gluten in small amounts as a treat with no problems, this mix is for them. Your dog on the label is so cute - is he your dog? He is a composite of all of the dogs we've had over the years -- Ben, Arthur, Lucky, and now Watson. The first three assisted us in volumes of taste tests over the many summers we spent together as a family in Vermont, and Watson (as in "Mr. Watson, come here, I need you...") has served as our trusty assistant in the laboratory as we set about bringing Pantcakes 'n Woofles to you. |
